SELECT RANGE: MASTER TRAFIC
The Renault corporation, established in 1899, did not achieve sustained sales success in the UK until the late 1970s and 1980s when the R5 and R18 became popular. Yet by 2006, Renault had become the third most popular manufacturer in the UK thanks in part to the success of the modern fleet of Renault vans.
The earliest Renault vans appeared in the 1960s when the company produced the Renault 4 Fourgonette and the Renault Estafette, the latter of which was produced until 1978. The Renault 50 series, originally known as the Dodge 50 series, were produced in the UK from 1979-1993.
However, the more modern generation of Renault vans has earned success after the Renault name rose in popularity thanks to the achievements of the super-mini Renault Clio introduced in early 1991. The Clio remains popular to this day and is now part of the Renault vans range as a campus van with a restyled exterior that combines the comfort of a small car with the functionality of a commercial vehicle.
The Renault Kangoo has been produced since 1997 and is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle. This Renault van is marketed towards small businesses who want to travel and haul equipment in style and comfort.
By contrast, the Renault Trafic, which is a joint venture with General Motors, is available in a host of styles. Drivers can choose between a passenger-carrying version, the Trafic panel van, the Trafic crew van, the Trafic CPV and the Trafic platform van.
Finally in the current generation of Renault vans is the Renault Master, an upper medium-sized van similar in size to the Ford Transit. The Renault Master range is also extensive and includes a panel van, a chassis cab, a platform cab, a box van and a CPV. The Master CPV comes in three versions – with six seats, nine seats and sixteen seats to choose from.
